Recycled Handcrafted Locally-sourced Unique Global Green Sustainable For-benefit Fair
The core of our business is to nurture long-term, sustainable relationships with our partners. We pay fair prices, give advance payment for orders when needed, provide small business loans, and facilitate new product development.
Artisans from Uganda
Working out of their homes in Jinja and Kampala, our partners are able to take care of their children and home while they roll colorful paper strips, cut from magazines and poster paper, into beads. Eventually the beads are creatively strung into necklaces, bracelets, earrings, ornaments, and more. Many of the women lovingly care for AIDS orphans along with their own children. Some of the women are sick with the HIV virus. All are striving to better their lives. By working their craft, they are able to make a living wage, which helps pay for medicine, food, transportation and school fees.
Artisans from Kenya
Zingira Nyanza Community Crafts ("Zingira" means "environment" in Swahili) is a community-based organization of artisans situated in Kisumu, Kenya, near Lake Victoria. They bring together the efforts of local artisans to produce a range of handicraft products made from recycled, eco-friendly and locally sourced materials, including recycled paper cards and recycled tin crafts such as jewelry, mobiles, hooks, boxes and Christmas decorations. They also run a charity program that provides food, clothing and books for orphans and widows in their rural community of Siaya, and they support local HIV testing and education efforts in Kisumu.
Artisans from India
Sanskritik is a fair trade group of textile workers and apprentices from Punjab, in Northern India. This small group of women is committed to improving the quality of life for the working classes. They pair experienced textile workers with young women from disadvantaged families, training them in the art of embroidery, sewing, and ethnic tie-dye techniques. They are committed to a safe and nurturing work environment, educational assistance, emergency loans, opportunities for advancement, participatory decision-making, and fair pay--enough money for food, housing, transportation and healthcare.
